"Who Does She Think She Is?"

Maybe you’ve heard phrases like this when you or someone close to you, starts to grow or change: “She's getting too big for her boots” or “She should remember where she came from.” Sometimes those words spark a fiery defiance, other times they make us want to shrink and hide. I’ve felt both.

Here’s my truth: I remember where I’ve been, I welcome who I’m becoming, and I give myself permission to be here, as I am, today.

And yes, I look good in boots and barefoot… but I digress.

Meet Zoe

I’m a down-to-earth, thoughtful person shaped by many roles and life experiences.

I often meet people who are capable, giving and strong, yet inside they’ve lost touch with their spark, their strengths, and that wild part of themselves. Maybe you know that feeling too, the longing to be more present, to express yourself without apology and to live in line with your own values.

I’ve always been drawn to creativity, drawing, journaling ways to comfort my self in this world. As life got busier a few years ago, that space for myself shrank. Burnout hit, self-doubt crept in and there were times I felt completely off balance. I’ve been through it and I’ve come out the other side. I’ve learned to trust myself again, stand in my own self-worth and make space for my creativity and voice even on the days I feel uncertain or vulnerable.

My Background

Alongside Rebellious Rue, I also run A Deeper Sense, a private therapy practice and have spent nearly a decade supporting people with self-worth, stress, burnout, and trauma. I’ve delivered psycho-education groups, low self-esteem programs, PTSD programs, and taught level 2 counselling diplomas.

I hold a Professional Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (2016) and a Diploma in the Practice of Supervision (2021), and I continue to deepen my professional skills with training in creative and expressive approaches and nervous-system-informed wellbeing.

My experience informs this service while keeping it non-clinical.  Rebellious Rue is not therapy but can be deeply therapeutic.

Why Rebellious Rue?

Named after the wild herb rue a plant known for protection and resilience. Rebellious Rue is about reclaiming that same strength and self-trust within yourself. It’s created for stepping away from productivity-driven worth, perfectionism, and comparison… and stepping into the grounded, expressive, unapologetic you.

I use a blend of somatic practices, creative expression, breathwork, and reflection inviting you to:

  • Notice and listen to your body
  • Express yourself
  • Experiment with what it feels like to take up space
  • Reconnect with your creativity and inner wild

It’s an investment in your deepest resource: you.
